stats: 18, Senior at Prattville High School
notable: Varsity Volleyball Team Captain, SGA Workhorse Award Winner, Alabama Student Council Association State Secretary
quotable: “Keep Christ first and everything else will fall into place. My parents have taught me to make sure God is first in all I do, and I have found that no matter how busy I get, finding time daily for Christ keeps my life on track.”
her story: Rachel is organized, determined, and ready to lead. At Prattville High School, she holds leadership positions in several organizations— she is president of the National Honor Society, vice president of the Student Ambassadors, and board member of the Student Government Association. She is also the varsity volleyball team captain and has received the “Best Defensive Player” award for three years in a row. From sports to academics and school organizations, Rachel wants to be remembered as “someone who loved others with godly love and worked hard at whatever she put her mind to.”
what’s next: “I want to be a nurse practitioner specializing in gastroenterology. Growing up with celiac disease and having my gallbladder taken out when I was 15 sparked my interest in the intestinal tract and digestive system. I hope to one day be able to work in pediatrics so I can help children who suffer from intestinal issues.”
PG (parental guidance) rating: Rachel is proud of her parents’ work ethic: “My parents both worked their way through college with full-time jobs because they knew they wanted to have a comfortable life and a big family. They both grew up in homes where their parents did not have college degrees and often struggled.”
parents’ perspective: Keith and Charlotte shared, “What we admire most about Rachel is her passion and drive to be the best at whatever it is she sets her mind to do. She prepares for tests, she has projects done a week in advance, and her peers go to her to plan events for the organizations she is involved with. Her planning and organizational skills are exceptional.”
parent-to-parent: “We would advise other parents to encourage their children to do well in school, as learning to problem-solve and think critically are important keys to success. Most importantly, support them in the things they are passionate about because it is probably in those areas where they have the most potential to succeed and be happy in what they are doing.”
