The Alabama F.A.M.E. (Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education) includes a two-year technical Associate degree that combines a cutting-edge curriculum to support advanced manufacturing technology, paid working experience, along with learning highly sought-after business principles and best practices of a world-class manufacturer.
FAME program students earn a wage while attending college and gain priceless work experience with a global manufacturing leader. While in the two-year FAME program, students can earn $24,000 or more to cover their educational expenses and avoid the costly hassle of student loans.
FAME on the Plains
FAME on the Plains is a chapter within Alabama FAME and was started in direct response to the needs of our local industry. Our service area contains more than 50 manufacturing companies that need skilled employees. FAME on the Plains is an apprenticeship-style career pathway that puts students to work earning no less than $13.00/hr. immediately. SUSCC President Todd Shackett stated, “It is exciting to see that our local industry partners are willing to invest in our students’ future through participation in this program.”
FAME National Statistics:
• 34 Chapters in 16 states
• 350+ company sponsors nationally.
• 85% of graduates continue working for their sponsoring companies.
Some of the benefits associated with being a FAME student include graduating debt-free in a high-paying career field, graduating with a degree and 2 years of experience, and the ability to continue your pathway through four-year options. FAME prepares students to become leaders in manufacturing and offers a clear career pathway to careers in technical, engineering, and business with options that could go as far as a Ph.D.
Jumpstart Your Career
FAME on the Plains focuses on jumpstarting careers in manufacturing. Recently adopted by the Manufacturing Institute, the FAME program has quickly become the go-to source for hiring skilled employees. Graduates of FAME on the Plains are referred to as Advanced Manufacturing Technicians (AMTs) and are equipped with the skills to repair and maintain equipment as well as solve problems that interfere with the continued effectiveness of the manufacturing environment. This pathway offers employment in a high-wage and high-demand field that offers graduates starting wages as high as $30.00/hr. or $57,000 a year.
Admissions & Aid
To be accepted into FAME on the Plains, students must apply for admission to Southern Union and meet the requirements to enroll in English 101 and Math 100 by the beginning of the upcoming fall semester.
