WHY TAKE THE ASVAB?
Are you thinking about what career path you want to pursue? The ASVAB can help guide your path, giving you the information you need to plan your next steps.
Below are some reasons to participate in the ASVAB Career Exploration Program (CEP).
IT’S MUCH MORE THAN A TEST.
The ASVAB CEP promotes career literacy and readiness and gives participants greater confidence in their career decisions. The ASVAB assessment is just the first step in the ASVAB CEP. Participants use their ASVAB scores to explore occupations that align with skills and interests. The program also includes planning tools that help students develop action plans for their futures to share with parents and educators.
LEARN YOUR STRENGTHS.
The ASVAB measures skills and strengths, which can be improved over time. ASVAB subtests cover traditional topics like math and English, and others you might not have had exposure to, like mechanical comprehension and electronics information.
QUALIFY FOR MILITARY SERVICE.
The ASVAB CEP is the only career exploration program that offers military occupations as a possible career path. While the program is not exclusively for those interested in military service, it offers an equally unique opportunity to students interested in pursuing post-secondary education, work-based learning, and/or the military. This is because the ASVAB assesses academic ability, predicts future career success, measures aptitude, and gauges potential for training. In fact, ASVAB CEP scores can be used to join the military for up to two years.
SATISFY GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS.
Most states require high school students to meet certain criteria to qualify for graduation. Many states recognize the ASVAB as an option for satisfying graduation requirements, and others use program activities to complete career exploration obligations.
IT’S FREE.
Most standardized tests and career planning programs are fee-based and do not offer career planning resources. As a federally-sponsored program, the entire ASVAB CEP is offered at no cost to students or schools.
