Prom & Parties

Prom – Ask Allison: Tux or Suit?

Prom is an event with lifelong memories. So, how do you decide whether to wear a tux or suit? You can’t go wrong with either, as long as you go by three important fundamentals: keep it classic, timeless and tasteful.

The differences between a tuxedo and a suit is the satin on the lapel of the jacket, buttons, pocket trim, and the trouser legs. A tux is more formal, but they are both good options.

Prom is an event with lifelong memories. So, how do you decide whether to wear a tux or suit to prom? You can’t go wrong with either, as long as you go by three important fundamentals: keep it classic, timeless and tasteful.

The differences between a tuxedo and a suit is the satin on the lapel of the jacket, buttons, pocket trim, and the trouser legs. A tuxedo is the more formal option because it sends a message that you’re wearing something special for this particular event.

Even though a suit doesn’t have the satin details, it’s still a dressy option. By adding a vest, pocket square/handkerchief, and bow tie you’ll be looking sharp not only for yourself but also for the young woman on your arm! Realistically, your prom won’t be a strictly black tie event; it’s almost impossible to hold a class of high school students to that standard.  This allows you to play around with different colors, particularly the neck tie. You can express your sense of style, but remember to talk with your date.  Young women spend a lot of time picking out the perfect dress for Prom and you wouldn’t want to clash.

Whatever you decide to wear, the most important part of your outfit is a smile and your respect towards your date for the evening! Have fun!
