Prom Make Up
Help your daughter choose a dress and shoes that match her personality. If she’s typically leading everyone to the dance floor, a more-fitted dress or shoes she can barely walk in are probably not the best choice.
If your daughter is wearing a long dress, don’t spend a lot of money on shoes. Encourage comfort over style since they won’t show much anyways.
Skip the tanning bed. Gradual tanner lotions result in an even, truly healthy glow typically after about two weeks of consistent use and can be found for less than $15 at local drugstores.
The Hair and Makeup
Find hair and makeup tutorials on YouTube and practice them with your daughter ahead of time to make sure it’s exactly how she wants it. Not only have you saved a few bucks, but you’ve also gained new hair and makeup skills with an added mother-daughter bonding bonus.
Help your daughter plan and be ready for her big night. We asked the experts at L'Esprit Salon Da' Spa in Montgomery, AL for tips, tricks and the timing for skincare services.
A Teen Facial will help clear any skin problems and give glowing skin for the night of the dance. Plan ahead! Book facials two weeks prior to the big day. Schedule Brow Waxing at least one week prior and Airbrush tans should be scheduled two days before.
The shape of the face determines whether or not you should wear your hair up or down. For square and oblong faces: wear your hair half way up or down with loose curls. For oval and heart shaped faces: wear your hair up.
If you are wearing your hair down, do loose wavy curls or curls that look natural. If you are wearing you hair up, wear it loosely pulled back with soft curls, or even in a low elegant bun.
Make sure to keep your makeup balanced. The heavier the eye makeup, the lighter you should go on your blush.
Choose your lip color wisely. If you use a smokey eye, choose less vibrant lip color. This will allow your yes to stand out more.
Use a bronzer to contour the shape of your face; follow with a shimmer dust for more glamorous appeal.
Use a face primer and lid primer before applying makeup to help keep your look all night. Put a mirrored powder compact and lipstick/gloss in a clutch to freshen up through the night.
A Mom's Advice: "Let your girls know they are your treasure and that there is no dress that can make them and more beautiful than they already are. They are enough." - Ruthie Carlson (Mom of 5 from juniors to college grads)
A Dad's Advice: "I invite my daughter's date to breakfast to get to know them and let them know my expectations (mainly no drinking!). If they had anything in mind, this would generally stop it." - Tim Chambliss (Father of 3 daughters and 2 sons)
