5 Benefits of Summer Camp
With the end of the school year quickly approaching, your high school student is no doubt daydreaming of relaxing the summer away. While it is definitely important to leave some time to unwind by the pool, there are many reasons why it may be wise (and more fun!) to consider a summer camp.
Keep Them Active and Unplugged
With an abundance of screen time, teens can become more sedentary and less engaged. Too much screen time not only has a negative effect on health, but has also been shown to hinder interpersonal relationship and social skills. Camp activities keep teens active and encourage face-to-face interaction over screen time.
Expand Their Horizons
Introducing unfamiliar skills or hobbies and a diverse new circle of peers is a great way to help broaden interests. Exposure to new experiences and ideas can lead to discovering strengths and passions that may have otherwise gone undeveloped.
Build Their Confidence
Summer camps can provide new challenges, and with each success, confidence grows. Even failures have inherent value when teens learn from them in a supportive camp community.
Boost Their Leadership Potential
Many camps offer a variety of opportunities to exercise leadership skills in team leader or junior counselor roles, which can provide teens with an advantage in college and beyond.
Find a Career
Look for camps that offer the opportunity to learn more about career fields and have some hands-on experience by competing a project. They may also cover essential information such as educational requirements, projections on where the jobs are and how the market will continue to grow to help students prepare for their future.
